This week marks the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week. This year's focus is on community and peer support for breastfeeding mothers. The World Health Organization says, "The key to best breastfeeding practices is continued day-to-day support for the breastfeeding mother within her home and community". Our last post was about Northside's Mom-Me Connection, which is a wonderful  and free way to give and receive breastfeeding support, from both peers and a Lactation Consultant. In addition, the Lactation Advice Line provides free telephone support at 404-303-3329. Our Outpatient Lactation Consultants help breastfeeding moms who are struggling (appointments can be made through the Lactation Advice Line). We also provide a free online breastfeeding class at https://classes.northside.com/CLASSES/Classes/EClass/2/Online-Breastfeeding-Course.

If you are a breastfeeding mom and need support, please reach out to supportive friends and family. Take advantage of the resources that are available through Northside Hospital. If you are an experienced breastfeeding mom, think about providing support to someone who is new to the art of breastfeeding.

Thank you to the staff of Northside Hospital for being breastfeeding advocates!! Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
